World Book Day

World Book Day

No one can deny the enjoyment that comes from being engrossed in a fantastic book. Not only is reading enjoyable, it also has a number of benefits such as increasing vocabulary and comprehension, reducing stress and improving brain connectivity in the reader. For children, reading is particularly important as it assists with their cognitive development, advances language skills, helps them develop empathy and builds their vocabulary, creativity and imagination. Reading has also been proven to help children improve their concentration.

Despite the known benefits of reading, The National Literacy Trusts states that only a quarter of children read daily in 2020. At The St Albans Tuition Centre, we appreciate how important reading is for children and we want to encourage children of all ages and backgrounds to develop a lifelong love of reading. At our centre, we have a large library of books suitable for different age groups which our students can borrow free of charge. With World Book Day approaching, we will also be getting into the spirit of celebrating all things reading, and holding a virtual Book Club event. Our book club event will be held on Zoom on the 4th of March from 1-2 pm. and free for all to attend. It will offer students an opportunity to discuss our chosen book with other students and our lovely tutors, talking through the characters and plot and their thoughts on the book. Students will also be encouraged to dress up in a favourite character from a book. The book we will be reading in the run-up to the book club event is Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. Children do not need to have finished the book to take part-the main thing is to come along and have fun! We hope that this event will be the first of many and the start of a regular Book Club at The St Albans Tuition Centre.

To register please email your child's name and age to info@stalbanstuitioncentre.co.uk.
